Bengali restaurant Kolkata Social opens in Newtown

Sydney is set to welcome a new restaurant tomorrow from Plate It Forward Hospitality Group, with Kolkata Social opening its doors on Newtown’s King Street. The restaurant has snagged top talent Ahana Dutt as its head chef, who spent several years working alongside Lennox Hastie at Firedoor. The opportunity to lead the new venue was a fortuitous event for the chef, who grew up in Kolkata and departed Raja in Potts Point last year after its closure.

Vue de Monde’s Hugh Allen announces first restaurant

Hugh Allen has confirmed he will debut Yiaga in Melbourne’s Fitzroy Gardens in spring this year. The U.S. hotel industry stepped back in the week ending 15 March 2025 as revenue per available room (RevPAR) dropped 4.2% year over year. The decline was almost entirely due to occupancy, which fell 2.3 percentage point (ppts), while average daily rate (ADR) decreased a modest 0.7%. Occupancy has decreased in 13 of the past 14 days with 15 March the only day with an increase.
